Christmas Celebration at Sacred Heart Convent “A Ray of Hope”

Christmas is celebrated to rejoice the birth of Jesus Christ and it is a festival of joy, peace and sharing. Sacred Heart Convent celebrated her Christmas day on 22nd of December 2021 at the Centenary Hall.

The Chief Guest of the Christmas programme was Rev.Sr.Premila Gamage. This event was attended by Rev.Fr.Sampath Willegoda, the Parish priest of St. Mary’s Cathedral and other Rev.Fathers along with Rev.Sr.Sandya Fernando, Rev.Sr.Mihiri Perera, deputy principals, teachers and children of the school.

There were many colourful performances and the best being the Christmas carols performed by the teachers and students. The function concluded with the arrival of Santa Clause bringing happiness to children. (more…)

Quasquicentennial Celebrations “125 Years Together and Forever “

Sacred Heart Convent, a leading girls’ school in the South, turned 125 years on 24th November 2021 in its magnificent journey.

Mother SHC celebrated its proud legacy of 125 years leading with the theme of “125 Years Together and Forever”.

In 1896 five pioneering sisters founded Sacred Heart Convent in Galle with just seven students.

Quasquicentennial celebration was held on 24th November 2021 at the Centenary Hall. The Chief Guest of the occasion was Very Rev. Fr. Charles Hewawasam, Vicar General of Galle Diocese while Rev. Sr.Ajitha Fernando, Mother Provincial, Sisters of Charity of Jesus and Mary and Dr. W.W. Gamage, Hon. Governor of Southern Province graced this occasion as Guests of Honour .

A commemorative postage stamp marking this memorable occasion was issued as a part of the event.

With 125 years of glory and grandeur Sacred Heart Convent proudly steps into another golden era by transmitting her legacy to the future. (more…)

Hon.Minister of Education Prof G.L.Peiris visits Sacred Heart Convent

Prof.G.L. Peiris visited Sacred Heart Convent along with the cabinet minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, Secretaries to the Ministries, Directors of Ministry of Education, corporate leader and the chairman of Derena TV  Mr. Dilith Jayaweera, Deputy Inspector General of Police- Galle, Mr.Nuwan Wedasinghe, Members of PPA and SDC In order to review the development plan of the school

Hon.Minister was warmly welcomed by the Principal Rev. Sr. Sandya Fernando ,  other Reverend Sisters and teachers. He also took time to address the staff who gathered to welcome him.


Sacred Heart Convent Marks 125 Years of Excellence

Sacred Heart Convent – undoubtedly the  most sought after school in the Southern Province marked its quasquicentennial year in 2021. It was quite heartening to see Heartians around the country gather around the most sacred and closest place to their hearts to mark the 125th year of their beloved Alma Marter.

A commemorative school calendar was launched to mark this special milestone in the school history at an event held at the Centenary Hall of Sacred Heart Convent on 29th January. The former deputy principal Ms. Elizabeth Senanayake graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.


The 10th Death Anniversary of Rev. Sr. Rosina Nanayakkara

A memorial program was organised on 11th of January 2021 to mark the Death Anniversary of Rev. Sr. Rosina Nanayakkara in the school premises with the reopening of the school for the first term. The principal Rev. Sr. Sandya Fernando, other Rev. sisters, all the teachers and students paid tribute to the late principal and remembered her by lighting up lamps. We will always remember her as a great sense of inspiration for future achievements.


Happy 124th Anniversary to Sacred Heart Convent and to all Heartians!

SHC celebrated her 124th Anniversary on 24th of November 2020 at the Centenary Hall with the participation of the principal Rev. Sr. Sandya Fernando as the Chief Guest. It started in the usual Catholic tradition with a Holy Mass conducted at the school Cathedral by Rt. Rev. Dr. Raymond Wickramasinghe, the Bishop of Galle Diocese.

Happy Children’s Day!

The children’s Day Celebration was held on the fifth of October, 2020 at the Centenary Hall. The Chief Guest of the event was the principal Rev. Sr. Sandya Fernando. The lineup of events included many entertainment programs by the teachers and some inspirational speeches. The day was a reminder that every child deserved education, nurturing and the best of everything.


Bidding Farewell to Our Exceptional Principal

SHC bade farewell to their exceptional principal Rev.Sr. Patsy Nesamalar who retired from active service. She is a marvelous person and strict disciplinarian. She guided the school with initiative, energy and wisdom. Under her the school was upgraded an every sphere of activity revitalized and she had an uphill task in maintaining the standard of the school. SHC expresses its sincere gratitude to her for all her exceptional contribution to the development of the school.
