SWIMMING
Sacred Heart Convent Swimming Club was registered in the National Amateur Aquatic Sport Union of Sri Lanka. 17 swimmers who had been registered at that time, took part in all the swimming meets conducted by NAASU and other clubs.
In 2003 we conducted our first swimming coaching camp for beginners. There were 106 students who successfully reached the elementary level standard. “Learn to Swim” campaign is held annually at the old Galle Jetty.
Though a swimming pool is not available in school, regular practices at the old Galle Jetty is done usually and compete with the other schools and clubs in National level.
Ashani Kalansuriya was a very talented swimmer who took part in all island competitions and won many awards. In 2003 she won the under 19 women’s championship in the all island men and women’s championship’s held at Ambalangoda. Many swimmers like Ashani, Dinushika, and Hasanthika have swum 2kms in the sea.
This year little Ashinshani Weerasinghe took part in the 2km sea swim held at Ambalangoda and obtained the 6th place in the under 12 group.
Not only swimming, but also Life Saving is done in our school. In 2001 five Heartians Ashani, Dinushika, Sumali, Hasanthika and Thamali were enrolled as life guards and they represented Galle district in National Life Saving Meet and won First place.
