History
                

• 1896 - Rev. Mother Amelie, the First Mother Superior, Rev. Sr .William Brennan, the First Principal of Sacred Heart Convent, Rev. Sr. Alexandra, Rev. Alberta and Rev. Sr. Marcia arrived in Sri Lanka from Belgium.                                           
  
• 1896 - The sisters started teaching in the existing mixed school on mount Calvary.
• 1896 - Sister William was made the Headmistress of the existing mixed school.

        
• 1897 - The sisters started a separate school for girls, named Galle Convent Girl’s  School.
• 1901 - The sisters moved into the present building.  
• 1912 - Sports on the green. The first recorded Sports Meet.
• 1920 - School was recognized as a fully organized secondary school by the Education Department.
• 1921 - Silver Jubilee of the school was celebrated.
• 1924 - Introduced the House system. King’s Own, Queen’s Own, Nazareth, Caritas.
• 1935 - Election of the First School Captain, Annette Floor
• 1942 - Sr. Mary Paul was appointed as the Second Principal of the school.

  
• 1945 - The school was recognized as a Grade 1 school. The first girls school to become a Grade 2 in Galle District.
• 1953 - Rev. Sr. William passed away.
• 1954 - Rev. Sr. Conleth was appointed as the Third Principal of the school.

  
• 1960 - Nationalization of schools in Ceylon. SHC opted to become a non fee levying private school.
• 1967 - The school Western Band was formed.
• 1971 - 75th Anniversary of the school.
• 1957 - Rev. Sr. Adrian Doran was appointed as the Fourth Principal of the school.

  
• 1976 - Rev. Sr. Rosina Nanayakkara was appointed as the Fifth Principal of the school.
  
• 1977 - The school was handed over to state, and named G/Sacred Heart Convent Balika Maha Vidyalaya.
• 1986 - 90th Anniversary of the school.
• 1991 - The 95th Anniversary of the school was celebrated.
• 1995 - Centenary celebrations began with fireworks and crackers at midnight.
• 1996 - Grand opening of the Centenary Hall.  
• 2000 - Rev. Sr. Disna Siyaguna was appointented as the Sixth Principal.     

  

• 2000 - New school building was donated by Dr. Richard Pathirana, Minister of Edcucation.
• 2000 - Extention of the play ground.
• 2001 - Computer Unit was started.
• 2004 - Tsunami - Lost precious lives of Heartian family.
• 2006 - 110th Anniversary Celebrations.
• 2007 - Giant project - Renovation of the roof & the school buildings.
• 2008 - Purchasing the adjoining land for the primary section, Agnes Villa.
• 2008 - Rev. Sr. Adrian passed away.
• 2009 - Opening of the new Home Science room.
