Sacred Heart Convent has been greatly recognized in the field of First Aid and Home Nursing since its inception.
The Log Entry made by Dr. H. Joseph in the school Log Book on 17th October 1918 leaves no doubt about it.
The concept of First Aid was introduced by Dr. Onvintus and Father Godleme took over the junior group. First Aid lessons were confined to those offering Home Science as a subject.
In 1950 the St. John Ambulance Brigade offered its services at special occasions and annual sports meet from 1960.
In 1990, Dilupa Wickramasinghe (the leader), Jayani Wickramasinghe, Preethi Perera and Srimethi Gunawardena represented Sri Lanka at the Commonwealth Cadet Camp. Sacred Heart Convent Nursing Unit was registered at the St. John Ambulance Brigade in 1991.
A “First Aid Day” was held on the 27th of December in 1992 by our First Aiders.
Sacred Heart Convent registered as a Cadet Division in the year 2000.
At the Annual Inspection Parade in 2000 Sacred Heart Convent was chosen as the Best Girls Cadet Group and was awarded the Championship at the First Aid Group Competition.
The Best Female First Aider Award won by a Heartian who was chosen as the “Second Best All round First Aider”.
A First Aid Day was held in 2002 as well. Our Cadet Leader was the 2nd Best First Aider at the Annual Inspection Parade in 2003. A three day residential First Aid camp was held successfully in 2003.
At the National Camp, 2 Cadet Corporals represented the Galle Division in 2004/2005.
The sergeant and corporals from Sacred Heart Convent represented the Galle Town Division at the International Camp held in 2006.
Sacred Heart Convent First Aiders got 2nd Place at the Annual Inspection Parade in 2007.
A. M. Prasangi Isurika (the leader), Piyoda D. Wijesinghe, Dinithi T. Perera and Gimhani Malwenna emerged champions at the Pushpakumara Quiz Competition which was organized by Richmond College Cadet Division.
